This long nightgown was inspired by a long stay in hospital. Following an operation I felt very low. I needed something to help keep my spirits up and promote recovery, but I was attached to drips and monitors, none of my 'normal' nightgowns were suitable, so we developed the ribbon straps on Persephone to cope. In the 'real world the ribbon straps have other uses, tie them just right and a swift tug will unravel them, and your nightgown will fall straight to the floor!
In Greek legend, Persephone was lost to her family in the underworld, leaving her mother distraught to the point that she refused to allow anything on the Earth to grow and the world fell into a perpetual winter. Zeus eventually forced the King of the underworld into a deal, whereby Perspehone, his Queen, would return to the Earth for 6 months of the year. Her return is the reason for Spring and Summer, while when she retreats to the underworld, we experience fall, and eventually winter. The soft mink satin of the nightgown echoes the earth, while the black lace yoke and trim is trimmed with apricot flowers. Part of our Classical collection.
